Bullseye Monkey
This past week I returned to the store that shall remain nameless. You know, the one with the target logo? The store with the dubious pricing practice of having lower prices online than in the store (See last week’s post here)? Having learned my lesson, I did my shopping online. There I saw what I wanted but I was not sure of the size. I was looking for an inexpensive food processor. I only use one a couple of times per year. I do not need a fancy one, but as with everything in life, size matters. There was an 8-cup and a 12-cup processor on sale, and though I had one before I did not know it’s bowl size. Knowing that the online “sale” price is often less that than the in-store price, I drove down there only to see the size. I would then go home, order the appropriate one online and return to pick it up two hours later - just like the trained monkey that I am.
I know that sounds like a lot of work, but I figured it would be worth it. After all, the fan I bought last year was $13 more at the store. But when it comes to size, seeing is believing. Eight cups is quite a bit smaller than twelve. Four cups less to be exact. That's four servings of almond/coconut milk according to nutritional information on the side of the carton. For those of you who shun cow’s milk alternatives, that would be eight servings of cannellini beans. I need to see the difference to see which one would fit in my cabinet best.
So here I was at the Walmart competitor checking out bowl sizes. After deciding the 12-cup version was a better size - bigger is always better, I'm told - I checked in-store price. The in-store price for the 12-cup version was $10 less than the price online. In fact, it was the same price in-stores as the 8-cup one was online. I took out my trustees smart phone to go online and make sure I was not misrepresenting this guffaw. I was not. So I went and got the cart I ignored when I entered the store since I was not going to handle the merchandise, just look at the size. But the price was right. Sure the unit was big, but that only meant I needed to move my cans of cannellini beans to another cabinet.
